World Book Day
Tuesday 29th February 2022
To promote reading for pleasure and to encourage our pupils to read more broadly, we are having a school book fair on Tuesday 8th March from 3:20pm to 4:30pm in the KS1 library.
The book fair is being organised in conjunction with our Usborne Partner, Rebeca Lester, and every book purchased will go towards brand new FREE books for our school. Usborne will also donate up to 60% of the total book fair sales value raised in FREE BOOKS to the school. So, for every £600 of books purchased, we will get £360 in FREE Usborne books for our school!
To manage the congestion through the book fair, we ask that you enter the school site through the playground and enter the building through the door located next to the KS1 library area. Once finished, please exit through the main reception. Upon arrival, you may be required to queue if the fair is particularly busy but St Matthew’s staff members will be on hand to guide you with this.
Children who participated in the sponsored reading challenge (Ready Steady Read) will receive a £5 book token. If your child participated in this challenge, please see one of the Usborne Book representatives at the fair as they will deduct this from your purchase.
Books can be ordered on the day of the book fair and paid for by debit/credit card payment. You will receive your order by Tuesday 22nd March. If you wish to fill out the order form prior to attending the fair, or instead of attending the fair, please find the order form attached to this letter. You can review book titles here: https://usborne.com/gb/
For more information and for tailored book recommendations for your child, please contact: Rebeca Lester – Email: email@example.com. Should you have any other questions, please contact your child’s class teacher, or any of the reading leads.
We look forward to having lots more books for your child to read, share and enjoy.

Monday 14th February 2022
To celebrate World Book Day on Thursday the 3rd of March, we are welcoming all children to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. During the day, we will spend time engaging in different reading-based activities and have a good chance to share lots of books. If your child has a favourite book at home, they are more than welcome to bring the book to school to share with others in their class.
Ahead of our celebrations next month, your child can start completing some reading-based activities at home. If they would like to participate, there are 2 activities which need to be completed by the 3rd of March. We will spend some time on ‘World Book Day’ celebrating their efforts.
Task 1: Story Front Cover! Can they recreate a front cover of a favourite story? They can draw the front cover, paint it or take a photograph of them recreating the image. Have a look at the ideas below for inspiration. This can be done on A4 paper or card. Please inform the office if either are needed.
Should you wish for your child to participate in our book sponsorship:
Task 2: To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of books, we will be holding a sponsored read from Thursday 24th February – Thursday 3rd March (this is partly during half term). The project, which is called Ready Steady Read, is being organised in conjunction with our local Usborne representative, and the money raised will go towards brand new books for our school. You can find sponsor forms and additional information about the reading challenge attached to this letter/email.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher, or any of the reading leads, if you have any questions.
