World Book Day
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you will already know, it is World Book Day next week. At St Matthew’s, we like to be a little bit different and we have decided to postpone our celebrations until Thursday 11th March so that all children will have returned to school and we can enjoy the day all together.
Ahead of our celebrations next week, your child can start completing some reading-based activities at home. There are 2 activities which we would like your child to complete by next Thursday if they would like to participate. We will spend some time on ‘World Book Day’ celebrating their efforts. Your child’s class teacher will set some time aside for them to complete the following tasks this week.
Extreme Reader! Take a photograph of yourself reading in a strange, unique place. Try to be as creative as you can! Bring the photograph into school or send it to your class teacher, ready for World Book Day.
Story on a Plate! Can you recreate your favourite story on a plate? Have a look at the ideas below for inspiration. You can collect a paper plate from the school office if you need one.
Should you wish for your child to participate in our book sponsorship:
Task 3: To celebrate and encourage a lifelong love of books, we will be holding a sponsored read from Thursday 11th March until Thursday 18th March. The project, which is called Ready Steady Read, is being organised in conjunction with our local Usbourne representative, Carly Cavilla-Hunt, and the money raised will go towards brand new books for our school. You can find sponsor forms and additional information about the reading challenge attached to this letter/email.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher, or any of the reading leads, if you have any questions.
