Useful Information

  • Our class PE day is every Friday. Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school. Thank you!

  • Please remember that the school gates will open at 8:30am and the register will be taken at 8:40am. The children can be picked up anytime between 3:00-3:20pm.

  • We ask that your child brings their (labelled) PE kit to school on a daily basis. They can wear their PE kit to school every Friday in place of their school uniform.

Summer’s Here

Our summer term has started with a bang! Our story this half term is Jack and the Beanstalk which, already, is offering links to lots of areas of our learning. We have planted our own beans and are currently making observations and learning about how plants grow. We have been experimenting with colour mixing and creating different textures using a variety of resources (such as sand, glitter and even Rice Crispies) to make our own magic Beans. Our parents had a sneak preview of the learning we have been doing with Talk for Writing in our open afternoon: this involves drawing a story map which the children follow when retelling the story. We also use lots of actions to help us remember punctuation and ‘wow’ words. We will also be linking our learning about length and measure to the size of the giants feet!

Science Day

For a day, we were scientists investigating the fruits featured in one of our favourite books ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’. We used our senses to discuss and compare the different fruits. We touched, smelt, looked at and (our favourite) tasted all of the fruits while sharing our opinions with our friends. The most popular fruit was the strawberry 🍓

Pancake Day

We had so much fun making pancakes in class this year. The children did all the work themselves from reading the recipe, measuring the ingredients, cracking the eggs and stirring hard to get rid of any lumps in the batter. They all were very sensible around the hot pan and enjoyed their own pancake with some lemon and sugar.

Army Visit

We were very lucky to have a visit from Major Vernon who showed us his army vehicle to help us with our learning about ‘people who help us’. We were lucky enough to climb up and sit in the truck. We enjoyed learning about how the vehicle is used to transport soldiers and how it can travel on any terrain, even in a meter of water!

Visit from Spa Dental

Visit from Spa Dental 1
Visit from Spa Dental 2
Spa Dental shared with us lots of hints and tips to keep our growing teeth as healthy as possible. We learnt that we should brush our teeth twice a day for 2 minutes. We were given a timer to take home to remind us. Also, we were advised to ‘brush, spit but don’t rinse’ as well as ensure we don’t have too many sweeties!

The start of our learning journey in RL has been a fantastic one. We have been making new friends, learning about our handy hints, visiting the library, getting used to school routines, trying new foods, sharing our learning on the Wow Wall, enjoying our special music and PE lessons and much, much more!
