Class 1O

Useful Information

  • Our class PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school. Thank you!

  • Please remember that the school gates will open at 8:30am and the register will be taken at 8:40am. The children can be picked up at 3.20pm.

  • We ask that your child brings their (labelled) PE kit to school on a daily basis. They can wear their PE kit to school every Friday in place of their school uniform.

Please, please, please ensure that EVERY item your child brings into school is clearly labelled with their name. Items will inevitably become misplaced and it makes it a lot easier to return items to their owners when things are labelled. Thank you so much!

World Ocean Day - discussing the importance of saving our ocean and all the ways we can help by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Our finished junk model boat masterpieces!

A great afternoon making our junk model boats! We have previously planned, designed and listed the materials we would need. Our next challenge is to test them!

We learnt the poem of The Train Ride by making a text map and actions. We loved the repetitive rhythm of the poem - it sounded just like a train! We then innovated the poem to make our own called The Bus Ride! We had great fun making up the new actions to help us remember the poem.

Something Fishy!

This week in English we have been finding out about the story of 'Something Fishy'.  We mapped out the story as a class and then worked in groups to act out each stage of the story.

Love Theme Day

We spent time finding out about out Christian Value of Love.  We listened carefully to our linked Bible verse, thought about people we loved and how we show them we care, made love cards using key sections of scripture, painted love hearts using our colour mixing skills and created heart patterns on peg boards.

13th September 2018

Today we have been thinking about what makes us special as a Church of England school.  We have shared our ideas as a class and talked about what it means to let our lights shine.  Here are some of the ideas that we shared...

Look at our learning when we were in Reception

Growth Mindset in Reception

Here at St Matthew's we promote a Growth Mindset in all of our children. We encourage 'challenge' and teach them that to 'be challenged' is a positive thing that helps us to learn. We celebrate mistakes that we make and consider what we would do differently next time (i.e. what have we learnt from our mistake) and we think about the 'Power of Yet' - we may not be able to do something right now, but that does not mean we will never be able to do it - we just cannot do it 'yet!'.

Check out the document below for more information...

Our first two days at school

We have enjoyed getting to know our new friends and we have been busy exploring our new environment at St Matthew's.

A busy few weeks!

We have had a very busy few weeks learning new sounds, being shape detectives around our classroom and we have been making some more lovely friends around our school.

Our National Marine Aquarium Visit

We were very excited to welcome some special visitors from The National Marine Aquarium. We met a mermaid called Marina and some of her lovely friends. She also brought some interesting things for us to see and touch. We really enjoyed looking around the classroom for the purses Marina had dropped, we were very helpful. We have been learning about questions so we were able to ask Marina some very good questions. It was a very exciting visit!

Our Learning Displays

We have worked so hard and we want to share this with you.

Festive Fun

We really enjoyed our final two days of term. We kept very busy. Some of our activities included: singing with Mrs Caddick, dancing, party games, making photo frames and we even met Father Christmas!

Safer Internet Day 2018

We have been learning how to keep ourselves safe when using a range of technology online. We listened to the story of Smartie the Penguin and shared ideas of what we would do if we were in the same situation. We also enjoyed learning the words of Smartie’s song, ‘Before you tap and click, You need to stop and think, And tell someone’. The children completed an activity while singing the song.

Mother's Day Afternoon Tea

Thank you to all of the 'special ladies' who joined us for afternoon tea. The children enjoyed making your scones and sharing them with you.

Must Read Books

'Learning Together' Workshop

Here are the PowerPoints from our 'Learning Together' workshops. We discussed how we teach Phonics and Maths in the Early Years and we also discussed the writing process and the expectations for the end of Reception...Feel free to pop in and ask the Reception team any questions about it.
