Term 6

We hope you had a lovely half term and your child is feeling really refreshed and ready for lots of learning for their final term in reception!  This term we will be consolidating all the learning that has taken place over the course of the year and preparing your child for Year 1.   We will be reading a variety of Julia Donaldson books; focusing on The Gruffalo and Zog.  We are really looking forward to going to Haldon Forest as our Hook into the topic and we are excited about the story writing the children will produce.   Please see below the termly overview for more detail of how we will be covering all the areas of the EYFS curriculum.

What will we be learning in Term 4?

Welcome back!  We hope you had a lovely half term and enjoyed the glorious sunshine!  Can you believe it, but your child in now half way through their time in foundation!  Here are some of the things we will be learning this term.  Please remember to look at our weekly learning letter for more detail.

  • We will be continuing our topic of 'transport' but this term we will be linking it to 'people who help us'.  We are excited about having a different visitor each week: a soldier with an army tank; a police person with a police car, a fire person with a fire engine and finally a paramedic with an ambulance.  The children will have the opportunity to look around the different vehicles and will be able to ask each visitor questions.  This will then help them to make and write their own non-fiction/non-chronological report on Transport and People who help us.
  • Consolidating our understanding of number to 20.
  • We have now learnt two of our school values of love and forgiveness.  This term our focus will be on the value of 'courage'.
  • We will be learning about the meaning of lent and the Easter Story.
  • We have now completed Phase 2 and Phase 3 phonics, which means your child has been taught: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, j, v, w, x, y, z, qu, ch, sh, th, ng, nk, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er.

we will be now recapping over all these sounds and making sure we can read the digraphs and trigraphs within the             words and apply them to writing.  We will be continuing to learn to spell phase 2 tricky words I, to, no, go, into, the       and make sure we are confident in reading the tricky words he, we, be, me, she, you, all, my, was, they, are, her.
