We had a wonderful time on Red Nose Day.Professor Bob Stone, Vish and Cheng from the Human Interface Technologies Team, University of Birmingham, arrived at our school on Friday 24th March with a variety of exciting Virtual Reality technology for the children to try out. It really brought history to life!
Check out the photos from our amazing Island Exhibition. We were blown away by the effort and achievement made by all the children who took part. As always, our thanks go to the parents for their continued enthusiasm and support

Owls Visit St Matthew's!
We have had some interesting visitors at St Matthew's! Mr Burt visited us with his collection of owls. We saw a Little Owl, an English Barn Owl, an African Barn Owl and a Frogmouth to name but a few! In total we saw 10 owls. The children asked some very good questions and we learnt so much! Did you know that an owl can make half of it's body sleep whilst it is in a tree, while the other half of the owl is awake and searching for food! Amazing!
We really enjoyed meeting the firefighters today! They visited us in school to talk to us about their jobs and reminded us how to stay safe. We loved exploring the fire engine and all the different equipment!
Grand Designs Exhibition ~ Tuesday 10th November
The home learning project this term was to ' design a home for the future' . Some children designed a new home for the 3 little pigs whilst others planned their own homes. The judges, staff and parents were amazed at the fantastic designs as well as the thoughtful ideas and clear explanations that the children were able to provide.
We were impressed with the range of projects which included; booklets, 3D creations, powerpoint presentations, laminated posters and a living plant.
The projects were shared at our exhibition and 3 amazing designs were awarded a prize by Plymouth Homes Estate Agents , located in Crownhill.
A special thanks to the PTFA who hosted a cake sale at our exhibition and managed to raise over £100. The PTFA are currently aiming to buy ukuleles for the children so they can have lessons in school and an after school ukulele club can be established.
Children in Nursery and Reception went on a welly walk to collect leaves, looking at patterns, shape and colour. We had a few moments of reflection, watching the falling autumn leaves and the enormous trees with the blue sky beyond and thought about the amazing world that God created for us.
National Bake Week 2015
Inspired by The Great British Bake Off and Paul's amazing Lion head, Yr 2 - 5 have been using their Maths skills in measuring to create a Wolf's head linked to our work earlier in the term on the Three Little Pigs.
